SSC CGL Recruitment 2026 : FAQ's

Question: Has the Tier-I exam layout changed?

Answer : The initial stage of the selection process follows a structured format designed to test four core competencies. While the subjects are familiar, the examination enforces a strict time limit and specific qualifying conditions.

  • Total Questions & Weightage: The paper comprises 100 multiple-choice questions carrying a maximum score of 200 marks.

  • Subject Distribution: The question paper is evenly divided into four modules, with each section featuring 25 questions:

    • Quantitative Aptitude

    • General Intelligence & Reasoning

    • English Comprehension

    • General Awareness

  • Time Duration: Candidates are allocated a composite time of 60 minutes to complete the entire test.

Question: Has the Tier-II exam layout changed?

Answer :

Paper-I is divided into discrete segments called Sessions and Modules, keeping the evaluation highly objective:

  • Session 1: Objective Assessment (2 Hours 15 Minutes)

    • Section I (60 Questions | 180 Marks): Features an equal split of 30 questions from Mathematical Abilities and 30 questions from General Intelligence & Reasoning.

    • Section II (70 Questions | 210 Marks): Combines 45 questions of English Language & Comprehension with 25 questions of General Awareness.

    • Section III (20 Questions | 60 Marks): A dedicated Computer Knowledge Module to check digital literacy.

  • Session 2: Skill Assessment (15 Minutes)

    • Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): A mandatory typing module requiring precise data entry of a provided text passage.Crucial Evaluation Rule: While Section III (Computer Test) and the DEST typing module are mandatory, they are qualifying in nature. Your final cut-off score and rank are calculated out of the 390 marks accumulated from Section I and Section II combined.

Question: What are the minimum qualifying marks required to clear the CBT?

Answer:  The baseline criteria required to clear the Computer Based Examination are calculated as flat percentages of the total marks, varying strictly by category. For an Unreserved (UR) candidate, the minimum qualifying mark is set at 30%, which means scoring at least 60 marks out of 200 in Tier-I, and a baseline score of 18 marks out of 60 in the Tier-II Computer Knowledge module. For candidates belonging to the OBC and EWS categories, the qualifying threshold is slightly lower at 25%, while all remaining reserved categories including SC, ST, PwD, and ESM must meet a baseline of 20%.

It is vital for candidates to recognize that securing these minimum scores only protects them from automatic disqualification; it does not guarantee a spot in the next stage. Because recruitment depends on a limited number of vacancies and highly competitive applicant performances, the actual functional cutoffs are always significantly higher than these minimum eligibility scores. Furthermore, these category-wise percentages also dictate the evaluation of Section-I and Section-II in Tier-II, and they serve as the foundation for the Data Entry Speed Test, where the maximum allowable mistakes are capped at 20% for Unreserved, 25% for OBC and EWS, and 30% for all other categories.
